Fatigue is a very common symptom and can have many possible causes, not all of which are related to the heart. It is often described as a persistent lack of energy or feeling unusually tired despite adequate rest. When fatigue occurs with exertion or is new and unexplained, it may sometimes be linked to an underlying heart condition, particularly if the heart is not pumping blood efficiently. This is more likely if you have risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, anaemia, thyroid problems, or a strong family history of heart disease.
Investigation may include blood tests, an ECG, an echocardiogram, or exercise testing to assess how the heart responds to activity.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include medication, lifestyle changes, or treatment of any identified heart or medical condition.
